Behold! the silvery cascades of nettle sex. Teeny tiny individual flowers on dangling catkins. This plant’s scientific name is Urtica dioica, referring to the fact that it is dioecious, which means the male and female flowers are on separate plants. I’m not sure if these are male or female flowers, further research needed! Wowza. This is what happens when you put fresh St. John’s Wort flowers (which are yellow) and leaves (which are green) into vodka (which is clear). It turns red! This happened after only a half hour or so. This tincture will eventually be one of the things that gets me through another long gray winter (along with a stint in New Orleans!). This is real summer magic in a jar!
